Rail Crossing's doc needs help catching a thief.

Objectives
* Someone's been stealing medical supplies from Doctor Boudreau's supply locker. Try to catch the thief in the act

Walkthrough
You're probably going to need some Stealth skill and Detection to catch the thief sneaking to the supply locker. For characters with low Stealth and Perception a Bear Trap can also be used, set it just inside the door to the room and wait, eventually Jared will walk into the trap where you can then talk to him.

Simply wait for the thief in Stealth Mode or somewhere out of sight , he'll eventually sneak in if he doesn't see you. Turns out the thief is Jared, who has become addicted to painkillers. Once he's caught red-handed, you can persuade Doc (no skill required) to call Captain Herve and have him arrested, or let Doc help him with his addiction. You can also offer Jared to accept money in exchange for keeping silence. He will pay you thirty charons or fifty charons if you pass the Intimidation skill check (50 effective skill). Even if you accepted the bribe, you can still complete the quest by breaking your promise and tell the Doc about Jared.

Trivia
* After catching the med thief in the act, the player calls out: "Hold it right there, criminal scum!" It is potentially a reference to the video game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006) where at one point a guard calls out: "Stop right there, criminal scum!"
Six is a character first seen in Oculus.

Background
Six is a cyborg. Six is just a nickname the Oculites have given him, after his six-fingered hands. No one in the Oculus knows much about him, not even his name. He is also known as Six to some people of Hexagon in North Underrail.

His real name is Rahm-Umbra and he is presumed to be one of the remaining Godmen that Azif (and player characters with sufficient Will score) have had visions of through the crystal mainframe. However, Azif notes that Six's cyborg form is not what he expected from Godmen based on his visions.

Player interactions
Although Six is working towards the same goal as the player, there are only few opportunities to cross paths with him. It is possible to miss most of the encounters with him, although his appearances in Deep Caverns are very prominent. He is easy to anger and in combat he is undefeatable, barring any potential bugs.

He's present in the Oculus as Azif's client for a short while, during the time The Cube is at Cornell's/Coretech's possession in Core City. Other oculites suggest you leave Six alone and indeed, he is not interested in talking to you at that point.

Later on, Six can be briefly met in Institute of Tchort west wing right before the faceless invasion of the institute. Depending on player's choices when talking with him, he may warn the player of the impending invasion or attack the player, leaving you with no other option but to flee.

The first prominent encounter with him happens in the Deep Caverns and this time he's finally willing to have a longer chat with the player and he reveals his true name, Rahm-Umbra. He is the first character you meet in the depths, and one of the few who can help you. He will point you towards destroying Tchort, although his information on Tchort itself is limited, and will also suggest allying with The Faceless.

If the player has already explored the Black Sea and decides to show Six the Ethereal Torch, he will explain it's intended function as well as providing some additional information on the Shadowlith and the negative effect it has on the world around it.

After the defeat of Tchort, he makes another appearance at the south elevator while it is climbing out of Deep Caverns. At this point Rahm-Umbra tells the player more about his goals. The true nature of Hadrian Tanner is revealed, although the player character may already know this, and Rahm-Umbra asks you to head to Hexagon in North Underrail and meet him there. If the player still has The Cube, Rahm-Umbra will take it by force and leave.

After returning from Deep Caverns, it is possible to have a chat with Azif to share knowledge on Rahm-Umbra, Tanner and the related events if you met Rahm-Umbra while he was in Oculus. Also, interacting with the Oculus Crystal Mainframe, other psionic crystals, the faceless commander, and certain logs give more background information on Rahm-Umbra, his origin, and goals.

Trivia
* After catching the med thief in the act, the player calls out: "Hold it right there, criminal scum." It is potentially a reference to the video game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006) where at one point a guard calls out: "Stop right there, criminal scum!"

Description
expand section
The institute used to be a Biocorp University, but it has been expanded and renovated considerably in the past decade of Tchortist occupation.

Courtyard
At the courtyard, there's a very diverse crowd of zoners seeking admission into the Institute.
* The Frowning Man carries a Coretech Pamphlet oddity, 3 XP.
* All tchortists carry an Eye of Tchort oddity, 3 XP

Offices
The north upper section of the Institute contains the offices.
* The large northwest office is Eidein's
*** File cabinet contains a Hypercerebrix
** The east room requires 65 Lockpicking

East Wing
Upper east wing houses the investigation department's science laboratories, lecture halls and preservation department's armory.

Lower east wing houses the sleeping quarters and medical office.

Armory
The armory is located between east wing and offices. Take the stairs up west of the fountain at east wing main hall or take the eastern stairs down from offices. Mediant Samuel is the highest-ranking preservation officer in the Institute while the Harmost is visiting Deep Caverns. Efreitor Hanna is the local armory keeper.

Physics Lab
The physics laboratory is at the north end of east wing. Schteff is the principal investigator of this section. Investigator Kiro is an electronics merchant whose services you can use if you get permission from the principal investigator.

Chemistry Lab
The chemistry laboratory is at the east end of east wing. Georgis is the principal investigator of this section. Octavia is a chemical merchant whose services you can use if you get permission from the principal investigator.
West Wing
Upper west wing houses the library. Most of the west wing is abandoned.

Lower east wing houses the refectory and entrance to utility section.

Eidein's library
The Institute's library dates back to a century, back when the Institute still was a Biocorp University. It has been expanded considerably since. Curator Nenna can be met in the library.

Library Terminal
The Library Terminal contains The Original Report, Important Dates (an overview of the Institute's notable events), Investigative Papers and Digital Literature. The Investigative Papers section contains Super Steel Refining Data and Blueprint: Regenerative Mixture, but to acquire them the player has to either have enough Hacking (100), pickpocket (53) the Library Propagator Card (Institute of Tchort) from the Tchortist Acolyte nearby or persuade (100) Curator Nenna to grant you access.
The Digital Literature section of the Library Terminal contains references to literary works and movies.
* Mound - Dune
* Call of Evolution - Call of Cthulhu
* The Evdok Heresy - The Horus Heresy
* Surface Troopers - Starship Troopers
* Archon of the Genes - Lord of the Rings
* Spirit of the Carapace - Ghost in the Shellverify
* Foreigner - Alien

Refectory
The refectory is the Institute's canteen and kitchen.
* Linked to the Main Hall
* Theodore sells food here (but only from the other side of the counter)
* Most Tchortists carry an Eye of Tchort (oddity), 3 XP

Utility section 1
* Linked to the Refectory northern passage
* The south room:
** Has shelves containing an Old Diver's Helmet oddity, 2 XP
** Has a locker containing a Biocorp University Emblem oddity, 1 XP

Utility section 2
The utility section is accessible from refectory kitchen, and with an elevator in Eidein's office.
* Linked to the Refectory kitchen
* The SE room:
** Has a file cabinet containing a Security Room Keycard (Institute of Tchort)
** Has a file cabinet containing a Ruined Textbook oddity, 1 XP
** Has a ventilation shaft leading to the NE room
* The NE room:
** Has a desk containing a Security Gate Keycard (Institute of Tchort) and an Encyclopedia Fragment oddity, 1 XP
** Has a ventilation shaft leading to the SE room

A part of the utility section is forbidden even to most Tchortists. It is possible to sneak in using the hidden ventilation shaft in west wing.

Genetic experiments are conducted in this forbidden laboratory, where some of the resulting creatures (called "rejects" by Tchortists) are detained. They can be freed by hacking the computer in the cells corridor (50 hacking skill needed), or by finding a key card on one of the scientists in another room.

Once the doors are open, rejects need to be directed to the hidden ventilation shaft by talking to the elder, named Sharp, and also mentioning the hole in the west wing as a possible escape route. Once the rejects are moving, they will be attacked on sight by any Tchortist guard, which prevents their escape.

It is possible to allow them to escape without revealing yourself to the Tchortists by creating a diversion. West of the cells is another ventilation shaft that leads north to another location in the same zone. Throwing a grenade there, or using a TNT charge, then sprinting back through the shaft to signal the rejects to move should give them just enough time to escape while the guards are investigating the explosion noise. On the other hand, attacking the guards, even stealthily, will turn all Tchortists hostile, since this is a controlled area. There is no quest associated to the rejects, and once they escaped they can't be seen ever again.

Quests
* Return the Reaching Man and Praepostor interview: Required to gain entrance to the Institute
* Strange tremors: Eventually strange tremors start shaking the Institute

While at the Institute, you may work for both the preservation and investigation departments.

Preservation
Mediant Samuel's jobs
* Secure Utility Station 7
* Find missing combat unit in west wing
* Track down Rassophore Nevil

Completing all of Mediant Samuel's tasks allows you to join the preservation section as a Rassophore.
Joining the preservation section will grant both Tchortist Vathosphore Armor and Tchortist Rassophore Armor. To receive the armors speak with Efreitor Hanna.

Investigation
Physics lab (Principal Investigator Schteff)
* Find Rassophore Pavel
* Deploy first T-ray emitter
* Deploy second T-ray emitter

Chemistry lab (Principal Investigator Georgis)
* Field test XAL-001
* HRO protein research
* Drink sampling

Genetics lab (Principal Investigator Rista)
* Pacify Psycho
* Disease-resistant DNA
* Forsaken Island Behemoth

Completing six tasks for the investigation section allows you to join the investigation section.
Joining the investigation section will grant a belt according to the department you choose:
* Bioinvestigative Belt - Department of Genetics
* Chemoinvestigative Belt - Department of Chemistry
* Electroinvestigative Belt - Department of Physics
To receive the belt speak with Usha again, messenger of Episkopos Lydia who first contacted you.

After you're done with Bret's tasks, Tanner asks you to complete Gorsky's tasks. Once they are complete and you return to Tanner, you also gain 2000 XP.

Objectives
* Travel to GMS compound and talk to Gorsky (Essie at the Lower Underrail exit can instruct you on how to get there)
* Find a way to open the sealed door in the GMS compound
* Complete tasks Gorsky gives you and return to Tanner

Walkthrough
Head to SGS level 1, exit the station platform area to north, head west from the first junction and make your way to GMS compound. Speak to Gorsky once inside (100 XP) and he'll give you a task to find a key to the storage door.

To access level 2 of the compound, you can either use the stairs in the northwest corner or the elevator, once you have re-routed power to it in the generator room. Level 2 is patrolled by 3 Sentry Bots, which can be very dangerous to take on as a low level character. Sneaking around is one option, and the ventilation shafts make this easier even for non-stealthy characters. You will find an emergency hatch leading down to third level on the southeast corner of this level. The key to this hatch is on a dead body northwest from the hatch.

Upon entering level 3, you will find out that some raiders have attacked a small local community. With high enough social skills, you can talk your way out of the initial encounter and the raiders will become neutral towards you. Without social skills, you will have to kill at least the raiders immediately below the emergency hatch. After that, you can either kill the raiders and free the hostages - or ignore them and simply sneak around until you find the key. You will eventually find the Level 1 Storage Keycard (GMS) on the third level of the compound, in late Dr. Bloomberg's room. If you don't feel like searching for the key, after you've reached level 3 you can go back to Gorsky and persuade him to pack up and return to SGS (25 effective skill required), but you won't get the experience or the 400 credits. If you bring back the keycard you get the rewards and you can try to persuade him to give you the keycard back (30 effective skill required). If you fail the check, you can simply visit Quinton back in SGS and talk to him about it and visit Gorsky, who's returned to the armory.

Trivia
*When the raiders ask the player about who they are, one possible response is "They call me Adhan." This is a reference to the video game Planescape: Torment (1999)
Tanner asks you to complete Bret's tasks, Hopper round up and Find Newton. Once both tasks are complete, return to Tanner.

Objectives
* Talk to Bret at the agronomy concerning his 'hopper round up'
* Capture three cave hoppers for Big Bret
* Complete tasks Bret gives you and return to Tanner

Walkthrough
Talk to Bret to receive details about the mission (100 XP). You simply need to capture three cave hoppers alive inside a Dog Crate. Northwestern Mushroom Cove is filled with these little beggars and sometimes they get stuck on one of the holes, making this an easy job.

This should be an easy task if you are playing a stealth character. Others may need to use utilities such as Throwing Nets or Tranquilizing Bolts to catch the hoppers alive. You simply need to get close to a hopper, whether by sneaking or immobilizing them, and then use a dog crate on it to capture it.

Stealth is boosted by Cloaking Device and some armor. It is penalized by other armor. If all else fails:
# watch where the Cave Hoppers disappear into the walls
# stand nearby to that point, hovering a finger over the Return key
# as soon as a Cave Hopper appears, press Return to enter turn-based combat
# right-click the Dog Crate in your inventory
# target the Cave Hopper to have your character run up to it and capture it
# if your capture failed, wait for the Dog Crate cooldown (and potentially Turn-Based Combat) cooldown to lapse before trying again.

Trivia
* After completing the roundup, one possible response when asked to name the captured hoppers is "Huey, Duey, and Louie". It is a reference to the TV series DuckTales (1987)

Walkthrough
Using the information you got from Phreak, head to Core City Sewers until you find the large drain pipe in the west-northwest corner. Descend down the second chamber and there you will find the secret switch and entrance to Acid Hunters' hideout. If you managed to make Phreak trust you, he will unlock a trapdoor leading to Cornell's hideout in the floor below. Once there, retrieve the High Voltage Power Cables from the Acid Hunters' hideout. How you deal with them is up to you, Phreak only needs the cables. Once you obtained them, bring them back to him. For the trouble, he will award the player with Camera Jammer and may also optionally (if his attitude to you is good) give you some Forged Underrail Express Tickets for testing.
Phreak wants you to activate boilers in the facility below.

Objectives
* Now that High Voltage Penetrator is assembled, Phreak wants you to aid him in overcharging the entire facility, by enabling the water boilers of the nearby facility, located on the level below and then east from where Phreak himself is. Once done, find a nearby console to further overburden the system.

Walkthrough
Boilers are located floor below. Player needs to press all switches on the boilers and then go to the console nearby and conduct emergency protocol. Each time player presses a switch, after a short delay the boiler will start regularly emitting waves of electricity that will instantly kill player if they are not in a safe spot. To safely activate all boilers, player should traverse the electric floor area in combat mode (ENTER button by default).
Once you activated all boilers and conducted emergency protocol, a path leading directly to the Research Facility and to the Abomination's Lair will be enabled, but it is dangerous area as there are both robots (likely varying in difficulty, up to an Industrial Robots) and several Death Stalkers.

If Phreak's attitude to you is friendly enough, after you return to him, he will award player with four CACS and from now on he will be also selling them. He sells four CACS for 200 charons however after the purchase, he will need some time to prepare another batch.
You found out that a man called Cornell and his gang Acid Hunters found something that's causing the Faceless attacks. Now it's time to find them.

Objectives
* Look for Cornell and his Acid Hunters gang in the Core City and report your findings to Tanner.

Walkthrough
This mission isn't the most straightforward one - Cornell is hard to find. There are almost no direct leads to where his hideout could be.

In the end, you'll have work for one of the three major factions, eventually gaining the trust of one of the oligarchs of Core City—Rupert Simmons of Coretech corporation, Gunnar Edstrom of JKK corporation, or Archibald Knight of Praetorian Security—and get involved in their business.

This means you have to choose one of three distinct questlines that will take you through various events of Core City from the viewpoint of that faction. Once you start working for one of the factions, the others refuse to hire you. All of the three questlines will take you through the same event at a Coretech warehouse on Core City's lower level. Later on, every questline also takes you to Cornell's hideout and that leads to a secret Coretech Research Facility. Some areas of Core City become accessible only during one of these questlines, so the entire city cannot be explored in one playthrough.

Key differences between questlines
* The Coretech questline involves finding a lost agent and tracking down stolen technology. The warehouse event is defending the warehouse with Coretech agents against unknown attackers. Passing through the research facility will be easier.
** Coretech only locations: none
** Coretech equipment:
*** Coretech Energizing Vest‎
*** Coretech Tactical Respirator‎
*** AI Scrambler

* The JKK questline involves mostly undercover work, infiltration and such. The warehouse event is disabling the warehouse's security.
** JKK only locations: Abandoned Biocorp Facility
** JKK equipment:
*** JKK Tactful Jacket‎
*** Hypno Goggles

* The Praetorian Security questline involves most direct combat. The warehouse event is eliminating mercenaries who have taken over the warehouse.
** Praetorian Security only locations: North-northeast part of Core City Sewers (notably, there are Mysterious Pillars similar to the ones in Silent Isle)
** Praetorian Security equipment:
*** Praetorian Caped Peacekeeper
*** Praetorian Peacekeeper
*** Praetorian Chestguard‎
*** Praetorian Lawgiver‎
*** Chemhaze Grenade
Fighting tactics
Master Exploder deals mostly heat and mechanical damage. He wears a Blast Suit which grants him fairly high resistances against mechanical and heat damage, and reduces damage from all explosions by 85%. He is not very agile. In versions older than 1.0.4.15, he wears a Fire Proximity Suit instead.
Details:
* Grenades (HE Mk III), pistol and fire psionics
* Blast Suit
* If Underrail: Heavy Duty is installed, instead of a pistol and grenades, he's armed with Milcore MGL unique grenade launcher with few 40mm Thermobaric Grenades, making him significantly more dangerous
