IRIS interface restored from 189 years old backup

IRIS is an artificial intelligence installed in Arke Power Station.

Description

IRIS is a binary-based artificial intelligence system created by Stamen Bergmann of old Biocorp, whom IRIS calls Father. She was designed for the purpose of controlling Arke Power Station's defenses as well as any RAF facilities throughout Underrail. Her neural network, which consists of hundreds of thousands of inter-connected cores, was designed to eventually advance past its original purpose and become self-conscious. Dr. Bergmann originally modeled IRIS after his late sister Kosana but IRIS developed a personality of her own early on, even before becoming self-aware.

189 years ago Bergmann expressed concerns over incidents which would eventually become known as Hollow Earth Incident, disconnected IRIS from RAF facilities, told her to increase robot production and to maintain full readiness. After Hollow Earth was abandoned, IRIS kept following his father's last orders and eventually became completely fixated on defending Arke against any perceived threat.

Dealing with IRIS

During the events of Underrail, IRIS controls lots of robots coming straight from automated assembly lines and will unleash other surprises such as toxic gas and cryogas in the ventilation shafts. She will also taunt and mock the player through the loudspeakers and through her robots.

Directly encountering and defeating IRIS in the power station's core is necessary for acquiring the repair bot AI core to repair the gate mechanism. With sufficient skills, the gate can be also repaired without it. For more information see restore Arke powergrid, if needed.

After shutting down IRIS, either by defeating the last of her defenses or persuading her to shut down, it is possible to successfully restore her last backup with 130 effective Hacking skill. Doing so will cause any remaining robots in the powerplant to become friendly to the player. Failure to restore the backup will turn her interface into an error screen eerily similar to BSoD.
