Magnus Oliver is the son of Kerry and Linda Oliver, and brother of Aida. Magnus was named by his parents after a chess grandmaster from the Old World, a telltale sign of one who was born into a wealthy and cultured family.

The above mentioned chess grandmaster is a reference to the Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen.
