Stamen Bergmann is a mentioned-only character who was the former head of Biocorp's AI Research and Development department. He is the creator of the Artificial Intelligence IRIS, who sees him as its father.

Background

Since he was three years old, Stamen Bergmann was destined to become the Head of AI Research and Development department of Biocorp. Hence, he was specifically trained to take over this position at some point. After excelling all expectations and with numerous successful projects in the field of AI on record, he was posted to Hollow Earth to develop IRIS, an AI tasked to oversee Arke Power Station's defenses as well as the RAF facilities like RAF 013 that exist throughout Underrail. During this time, his sister Kosana died in an unspecified accident, leaving him emotionally devastated.

To cope with his grief, Dr. Bergmann moved out of Caerus Residential into Arke and focused on creating IRIS, modelling it after his late sisters' persona.

Witnessing the signs of Biocorp's continuous deterioration, he grew more and more concerned, eventually ordering IRIS to increase the production of defense robots and maintain full readiness to defend Arke after the first incidents at Mutagen Tanks B.

It is not clear what happened to Dr. Bergmann during and after the Hollow Earth Incident but IRIS states that one human head is currently in cryogenic container which has been put there by her although she has no recollection of doing so since the player had to reset her to a backup version dating back 187 years.
