Cale is the Lord of Invisibility, a person who mastered entering the "state of gone". He is waiting in the Institute's courtyard for the perfect opportunity to reveal himself to the Tchortists and be worshiped as a god. He is shocked that a mere mortal, such as yourself, possesses the gift to see through his invisibility.
