Flare is a tool. Early on they are very handy against rathounds since they are deathly afraid of fire. Flares can also be used to illuminate enemy positions to increase ranged combat precision against them, or to ambush them. Flares only reveal stealthed targets when they land, not afterwards.

The deeper you venture into the caverns of Underrail, the darker they become, to the point where either flares or a Night Vision device becomes a necessity to see.

Flare throwing accuracy is determined by your Throwing skill.
